- About Us | Prairielanecrc
Who we are We at Prairie Lane Church are a part of the Christian Reformed denomination. So, although we share our most important beliefs with other Christians around the world, our Reformed (Calvinist) theology also makes us distinct in some ways, and this identity is important to us. We... Know Christ Grow In Faith Make Christ Known Demonstrate His Love Learn more about the CRC Our Vision Statement Prairie Lane Christian Reformed Church desires to be a community that is devoted to knowing and enjoying the great love of Jesus Christ in our lives. We will learn the joy of being united with Christ and to one another. We desire to move past “friendliness”, and instead engage in meaningful friendships as we share together our joys and burdens. We will celebrate together the miracles the Holy Spirit gives us. We will find encouragement and rest through God’s Word and through devotion to prayer. Our lives of faith and meaningful community will be evident and attractive to others. We reach out to others “as we are going”. Each of us has a mission from God and each one is called to be a missionary in our own contexts and to those we know. We desire to be a growing and multiplying congregation that continually works to partner with Christ and His church in expanding God’s kingdom. We will not be content to remain where we are, but instead will take risks in our obedience to our Lord, as we obey his 3 great commands: to love God, to love one another, and to make disciples. Core Values Healthy Spirituality Ephesians 4:11-13 Being joined with Christ we find our identity in him. Our desire is to know Christ. We are in the process of drying to our old selves and being raised up with Christ, so that our faith changes how we see everything in our world. A spiritually healthy person is deeply in love their Savior and lives a life of service in gratitude to God. They are never content to stay where they are, but desire to continually become more and more Christ-like. This means we must equip one another for works of service. A Christian Reformed Identity Ephesians 1:3-14 With Scripture as our authority, we share with the worldwide church fundamental Christian beliefs. However, adhering to a Calvinist/Reformed theology also makes us distinct. We are an art of the Reformed denomination and agree with its positions, including its historic confessions - the Heidelberg Catechism, Canons of Dort, and Belgic Confession. We emphasize God's sovereignty, God's grace, and God's covenant promises, which is why we baptize children of believers. Caring Community Ephesians 4:15-16 We desire to be a place of acceptance and love for people of all ages and ethnicities. We strive to welcome all visitors warmly and demonstrate Christian hospitality. We desire to act like a Christian family, helping each other grow up in the Lord - shoring forgiveness, generosity, encouragement, compassion, and speaking the truth in love. With Christ as our head, we strive for unity in the body. Kingdom Mentality II Corinthians 8:1-7 At Prairie Lane Church we desire to promote the growth of God's worldwide kingdom. As such we not only give generously to our church family, we also desire to show generosity to our community and other Christian ministries. We do this through consistent giving in our ministry shares and partnering with prayer, time, and financial support with other local, regional, and global ministries. We also will help promote the health of other Christian Omaha churches, not just our own. Biblical Authority II Timothy 3: 14-17 Our beliefs and our actions as a church must be directed by God's Word in the Bible. In all our ministries, we will strive to grow in our knowledge and commitment to the true gospel. Our preaching must be grounded in the good news of Jesus from the Bible, so that it is God's Word and not a person's opinion, The gospel is not just about how we are saved, it also impacts how we live. Prayer is a Priority Mark 11:17 Our church desires to be a house of prayer; prayer is foundational to all the church's ministries. Prayer acknowledges that we depend on God for everything that we have and can do as a church, and reminds us that the best thing we can do is remain focused on our relationship to Jesus. Sharing our Christianity I Corinthians 9:19-23 Knowing that a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to finding peace with God, we are compelled to obey God's command and share the good news of his grace and forgiveness to as many people as we can. We strive to reach out in our worship services, in our programs, and especially in our personal day-to-day lives as we embrace our identity as ambassadors and missionaries for Christ.
- What to Expect | Prairielanecrc
What to Expect We want you to feel comfortable attending Prairie Lane Church. Read on to help you get an idea of what to expect on a Sunday morning. Getting ready... Who/What No matter what your style is, you are welcome here. You don't need to bring anything with you - come by yourself, or bring along your family or a friend. Where When Service begins at 10:30 with music and worship. Most people arrive 5-10 minutes beforehand to say 'hi' and enjoy a snack and coffee. You have arrived! There are two parking lots with plenty of spaces, one on each side of the church (but only the south lot has handicapped access). Both parking lots are near the main doors that enter into our lobby area. Our bathrooms (including a unisex family bathroom) are located here. Feel free to grab a cup of coffee as you head toward the double doors leading into the worship center. If you have children, you are welcome to take them into worship with you. But, for young children (ages three and under) you can also use our free nursery by following the signs upstairs. Our nursery is staffed by approved adult volunteers with teenage helpers. Typically, on a Sunday morning, we have around 100 people of all ages come. Since we aren't a large church, many people will probably notice you are new--but that's fine, we love having visitors! Les Écritures et le diaporama sont traduits en Français Scripture and slides are translated into French Our Worship Service Our Sunday worship is typically about an hour in length and includes singing a variety of praise songs and hymns, led by our praise team. The words are on a screen for everyone to follow along, and during some songs everyone is asked to stand if able. Services are streamed on Facebook for those who can't join us in the Worship Center. Near the beginning of the service, we take a couple of minutes to greet one another as well as those worshipping on-line. Our services also include a Bible-based message about 25 minutes long and times of confession and prayer. Before the message, children ages three through 1st grade can go to children's worship class (room located near the lobby, downstairs) for material more relevant to their age, but children are welcome to remain in the worship center as well. We do take an offering each Sunday for a ministry we support. Our church is supported by on-line giving of our members. Visitors should feel no obligation to give money. Stephen Ministers are available for prayer after the service, you can find them up by the stage and are available to anyone. We celebrate the Lord's Supper once a month during our service. The Bible teaches that this sacrament of the church is for believers and their children. Guests that already belong to another Christian church are welcome to participate with us, if they want. Subscribe to our Church Emails Sign up for our twice-a-week church email to stay up-to-date on our latest news, events, and special announcements. We usually send out emails on Tuesday and Friday. Occasional one-off emails will be sent due to unusual circumstances (cancellations, prayer requests, etc.)

What does it mean to be Christian Reformed? The word "Reformed" comes from the Protestant Reformation 500 years ago. John Calvin was one of the church reformers of that time, and we hold to a doctinal outlook that is "Calvinist". Around this time, other Reformed Christians clearly stated their theological beliefs in three documents, which we call our church's confessions: they are the Heidelberg Catechism, Canons of Dort and Belgic Confession. Since we emphasize the authority of the Bible, we have much in common with other Christian church denominations. We believe our human rebellion against God has corrupted the earth and people with sin. Our salvation is a free gift of God that only comes through the grace of Jesus Christ (salvation is not because of what we do, but what Jesus has done for us). As fully human and fully God, Jesus paid the punishment we deserved for our sin. We respond with obedience out of gratitude to God. We believe all our work is a calling from God. As his followers we engage our culture and transform it, so that our world can become more like the perfect creation God intended for us. But, this will not be fully realized until Jesus comes again to make all things new. We declare God is in control, and nothing will prevent his perfect plan.

- History | Prairielanecrc
Our History The property was purchased, which at the time was on the western fringes of Omaha. A few families gathered for a worship service in the basement of the parsonage. The Christian Reformed Church recognized Prairie Lane as a CRC congregation in March. The Mustard Seed Pre-School started and ran for 37 years until it closed its doors in 2013. On May 4 we opened our new worship center with a dedication service. The Life House was opened in September as a food pantry sponsored by Prairie Lane Church and Westwood RCA. In 2022, The Life House shifted its focus to diaper distribution and moved to their warehouse location 9100 F Street. We renamed the old preschool building the GIFTS House. A space to share God's gifts with others and benefit our community. 1957 1961 1965 1976 2008 Prairie Lane Church was started when some established Christian Reformed Churches in Northwest Iowa felt a call to start a mission church plant in the Omaha area. 2014 2022 2023 Pastors James C. Steen 2005-2017 Chad Van Ginkel 2018-now ABOUT OUR CURRENT PASTOR - Pastor Chad began his ministry in 1998 as a youth pastor, first in Lynden, WA followed by 16 years in Sioux Center, IA. In 2015, he was ordained in the Christian Reformed Church and accepted his first call to senior ministry to Prairie Lane in the summer of 2018. Chad joyfully serves Prairie Lane Church alongside his wife Onita, and four daughters. Throughout these years the name of the church reflects our commitment to this community. We make Christ the focus of everything we do and say, especially in loving our neighbors. We've changed over the years: music, styles, people, leaders, etc. Still, we hope to impact our neighbors with the good news of the gospel, grow in numbers and someday grow beyond our own building. We know that God has been our help in ages past, and our hope for years to come. We may change, but the God we serve does not.
