Vision and Values

Prairie Lane Church's 7 Core Values

Healthy Spirituality    Being joined with Christ we find our identity in him.  Our desire is to know Christ.  We are in the process of dying to our old selves and being raised up with Christ, so that our faith changes how we see everything in our world.  A spiritually healthy person is deeply in love with their Savior and lives a life of service in gratitude to God.  They are never content to stay where they are, but desire to continually become more and more Christ-like.  This means we must equip one another for works of service.(Ephesians 4:11-13)

Biblical Authority / Gospel Centrality    Our beliefs and our actions as a church must be directed by God’s Word in the Bible.  In all our ministries, we will strive to grow in our knowledge and commitment to the true gospel.  Our preaching must be grounded in the good news of Jesus from the Bible, so that it is God’s Word and not a person’s opinion. The gospel is not just about how we are saved, it also impacts how we live.  (II Timothy 3:14-17)

A Christian Reformed Identity    With Scripture as our authority, we share with the worldwide church foundational Christian beliefs. However, adhering to a Calvinist/Reformed theology also makes us distinct.  We are a part of the Christian Reformed denomination and agree with its positions, including its historic confessions – the Heidelberg Catechism, Canons of Dort and Belgic Confession.  We emphasize God’s sovereignty, God’s grace and God’s covenant promises, which is why we baptize children of believers. (Ephesians 1:3-14)

Prayer is a Priority    Our church desires to be a house of prayer; prayer is foundational to all the church’s ministries.  Prayer acknowledges that we depend on God for everything that we have and can do as a church, and reminds us that the best thing we can do is remain focused on our relationship to Jesus. (Mark 11:17)

Caring Community    We desire to be a place of acceptance and love for people of all ages and ethnicities.  We strive to welcome all visitors warmly and demonstrate Christian hospitality.  We desire to act like a Christian family, helping each other grow up in the Lord – showing forgiveness, generosity, encouragement, compassion and speaking the truth in love.  With Christ as our head, we strive for unity in the body. (Ephesians 4:15-16)

Sharing our Christianity    Knowing that a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to find peace with God, we are compelled to obey God’s command and share the good news of his grace and forgiveness to as many people as we can.  We strive to reach out in our worship services, in our programs and especially in our personal day-to-day lives as we embrace our identity as ambassadors and missionaries for Christ.  (I Corinthians 9:19-23)

Kingdom Mentality    At Prairie Lane Church, we desire to promote the growth of God’s worldwide kingdom.  So, not only do we give generously to our church family, we also desire to show generosity to our community and other Christian ministries.  We do this through consistent giving in our ministry shares, and partnering with prayer, time, and financial support with other local, regional and global ministries.  We also will help promote the health of other Christian Omaha churches, not just our own. (II Corinthians 8:1-7)
