Prairie Lane Christian Reformed Church:
We are a friendly congregation consisting of people from all generations with a membership around 130 people.
Our Sunday morning worship (at 10:00 AM) typically is an hour in length and includes singing a variety of hymns and praise songs, a sermon between 20-25 minutes long, a brief message for children, and times of confession and prayer. We celebrate the Lord's Supper once a month. Nursery is available, as well as children's church for ages 3-6 (these children are dismissed typically after the children's sermon).
We are always happy to have visitors worship with us as we come Together in Christ's Presence.
Sunday school for all ages is available after Sunday worship, and we have many other programs and Bible studies that meet during the week.
We also have a Christian pre-school, called Mustard Seed, which meets in our church during the week.
Our theme in the 2008-2009 ministry year is "Building on Praise" The theme verse comes from Psalm 150:6 "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord".
This theme fits in with the completion of our new facility. As a church and as individuals we have so much to praise and thank God for, and yet we often neglect to make praise a part of our day to day relationship with God.
Our Mission Statement
-To Know Christ
-To Grow In Faith
-To Make Christ Known
-To Demonstrate His Love
OUR CORE VALUES:
Biblical Authority
Our beliefs and our actions as a church must be directed by God’s Word in the Bible. In all our ministries, we will strive to grow in our knowledge and commitment to the Bible. Our preaching must be grounded in Scripture, so that it is God’s Word and not a person’s opinion.
(II Timothy 3:14-17).
Prayer is a Priority
Our church desires to be a house of prayer; prayer is foundational to all the church’s ministries. Prayer acknowledges that we depend on God for everything that we have and can do as a church, and reminds us that the best thing we can do is remain focused on our relationship to Jesus.
(Mark 11:17)
Caring Community
We desire to be a place of acceptance and love for people of all ages and ethnicities. We strive to welcome all visitors warmly and demonstrate Christian hospitality. We desire to act like a Christian family, helping each other grow up in the Lord – showing forgiveness, generosity, encouragement, compassion and speaking the truth in love. With Christ as our head, we strive for unity in the body.
(Ephesians 4:15-16)
Sharing our Christianity
Knowing that a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to find peace with God, we are compelled to obey God’s command and share the good news of his grace and forgiveness to as many people as we can. We strive to reach out in our worship services, in our programs and especially in our personal day-to-day lives.
(I Corinthians 9:19-23)
A Christian Reformed Identity
With Scripture as our authority, we share with the worldwide church foundational Christian beliefs. However, adhering to a Calvinist theology also makes us distinct. We are proud to be a part of the Christian Reformed denomination and agree with its positions, including its historic confessions – the Heidelberg Catechism, Canons of Dort and Belgic Confession. We emphasize God’s sovereignty, God’s grace and God’s covenant promises, which is why we baptize children of believers.
(Ephesians 1:3-14)
What is the Christian Reformed Church?
The Christian Reformed denomination (CRCNA: the Christian Reformed Church in North America) currently has around 1,000 churches scattered across the United States and Canada. Many other Christian Reformed churches are in other countries around the world. In 2007 we celebrated our 150th anniversary.
Since we emphasize the authority of Scripture, we have much in common with other Christian church denominations.
We believe our human rebellion against God has corrupted the earth and people with sin. Our salvation is a free gift of God that only comes through the grace of Jesus Christ (salvation is not because of what we do, but what Jesus has done for us). As fully human and fully God, Jesus paid the punishment for our sin. We respond with obedience out of gratitude to God.
We believe all our work is a calling from God. As his followers we engage our culture and transform it, so that our world can become more like the perfect creation God intended for us. But, this will not be fully realized until Jesus comes again to make all things new. We declare God is in control, and nothing will prevent his perfect plan.
